Dairy Engineering Division was established as one of the major research divisions from the inception of the Institute. The division has research laboratory facilities to cater to the needs of specific areas and programmes such as Process Engineering, Process Equipment Design, Unit Operations and Instrumentation. In addition to this, there are post-graduate teaching laboratories, Research & Development Workshop, Equipment testing hall, Computer- aided Design/Computer-aided Engineering section to support both research and teaching activities. During the past three decades, the division has achieved breakthrough in developing a number of process equipment for manufacturing indigenous milk products. Most of these equipments have been patented and efforts are being made to transfer them to the equipment manufacturers. The division is exploring more tie-ups with equipment manufacturers and users for their collaboration in development or in adoption of the developed equipments. Every year, industry interface seminars are conducted for creating awareness and bringing the research institutes and industry closer. This has paid dividends during the last couple of years and now we expect private funding is expected in our research and development efforts.
